Captain’s Prize
It’s that time again when the highlight of the year is upon us. Obviously this is a special event with our Captain Joe being honoured. The draw for Joe’s prize takes place on Thursday evening with the qualifying round to be played over the weekend. The draw sheets are in the locker room so please put your name down before the deadline which is Thursday 18th at 8pm. Vincent de Paul Classic
On Friday last over 100 members of the Irish Aviation Golf Society took part in a Classic in aid of the local St. Vincent de Paul Society. This classic which was orignated by local Birr man Sé Pardy has been held in the Glenns for the past seven years. The president of the Aviation Society, noted that they had contributed over 80,000 euro since coming to Birr. In reply, Pat Pilkington President of the local St. Vincent de Paul Society, thanked the golfers for their exceptional generosity. He paid special tribute to Sé for his organisational skills and noted that the money collected has helped many people in the locality.
Captain Joe Slevin welcomed the Golf Society and said how pleased he was that monies collected were being put to such good use. Well known comedian Syl Fox added to the enjoyment of the evening.
Tudenham Cup
Congratulations to Tom Rigney and his team on the 3/2 victory over Moate in the Tudenham Cup competition on Thursday. The winning team was: at home were, John Dwyer/Brendan Hogan, Martin Young/Stephen Grogan and Gavin Young/Tony McCormack, Away were: Tom Rigney/Kevin McNamara and Pat Maher/Roddy Molloy. Best of luck in the semi-final against either Delvin or Castlewarden
Ladies’ golf
The Bookies Prize took place on Sunday, 14th August. Thanks to the Bookies for sponsoring this day.
A most enjoyable day was had by all. The results are as follows:- 1st Ann Frawley – 72 net 2nd Susan Reidy – 73 net Gross Gemma Butler 82. 3rd Agnes Doolin – 74 net 4th Vera Smyth – 74 net.
Mr. Captain’s Prize Mr. Captain Joe Slevin’s prize is on this coming weekend and the following Sunday and we wish him well and hope he has two wonderful and memorable weekends of golf. There will be a nine-hole competition for the ladies and details will follow.
