Birr Golf Club Development Classic
On Saturday 30th July, Sunday 31st July and Monday 1st August we are holding our Seventh Annual Development Classic. Our main sponsor is Michael Kennedy of Kennedy Motors, Birr and the burgers are sponsored by David Corbett of Cullinane Butchers, Birr.
Since the completion of our development in 2009 our new course has been much appreciated by club members and visitors alike and we look forward to maintaining and improving the course where possible in the coming year.
On behalf of the management committee, we thank you in advance and hope you can support the classic over the bank holiday weekend. In the financial times we find ourselves in, it is imperative that all members get behind this fundraising venture and give your heartiest support. It is an opportunity to invite relations and friends from other clubs to play our beautiful course. This in turn will multiply numbers playing and therefore, benefit all.
Cost per team for this year’s classic is €120 which includes burgers and refreshments on the 11th Tee. Full catering is also available in our Glenn’s Restaurant all day. The cost to sponsor a hole or tee is €50, should you wish to advertise your business / company over the three days. The timesheets are posted in the Clubhouse for the three days and if you wish to sponsor / advertise please contact the Club. We thank you for your continued loyalty and support.

A.A. Team News
What a superb victory the Senior Foursomes had in the Semi-Final in Tullamore on last Saturday the 11th July against The Heath. The team of Lady President Gemma Butler/Martina O’Brien, Anne Kenny/Ann Frawley, Mairéad McIntyre/Vera Smyth and Susan Reidy and Emer Hanniffy had a convincing win and played excellent golf in Tullamore. A huge thank you to the host Club Tullamore who were most willing to allow practice rounds and also on the day the condition of the course was superb considering the torrential weather over the few days. Well done to Team Captain Ann McIntyre and Yvonne Boland. Thanks also to the supporters on the day that travelled down to Tullamore – it was appreciated by the team. The District Final is fixed for 4th September in Roscrea with details to be announced.
The Challenge Team play their semi-final on Next Monday, 25th July in Abbeyleix against The Curragh at 2.30 p.m. We extend good wishes to the team of Carmel Ryan, Mary Byrne, Caroline Guinan, Patricia Guinan, Leilagh Hogan, Margaret Feehan and Amy Spain with Liz Pardy managing. The girls have put in a huge effort playing and practicing and it is hoped that this effort will pay dividends on the day. Best of luck girls!
