Open Week
All members and visitors please note that our Open Week commences on Sunday 15 May with a Men’s Open Singles Visitors are very welcome and the attractive entry fee of €15 should attract many golfers to our course. Hassetts of Crinkill and Banagher are our sponsors for the week. We are extremely grateful to Hassetts for their continued support and generosity.
On Monday there is a Team of 3, any combination with an entry fee of €30 per team. There is an Open Singles on Tuesday with a €15 entry for visitors. Wednesday is Ladie’s Open Day sponsored by Monahincha Health and Spa. Entry fee for visitors is €12 per person.
Also members should note that the very popular Presidents’ Mixed tees off on Monday 16th at 5pm. This year’s Presidents Gemma Butler and Tony McTague will be on hand to welcome all.

Congratulations to Seamas Breen and the Provincial Town’s Team on a 5/4 defeat of Tullamore. At home were: Tommy Hogan Pat Madden Andy Masterson Brendan Hoare and PJ Lowry. Playing in Tullamore were:Tom Moylan Matt Feenane Christy Purcell and Jonathan Kelly. Their next match is against The Heath or Portarlington.

Open Week. Open Week is fixed from Sunday 15th – 22nd May this year. The Ladies Open Day will take place on the Wednesday, 18th May with Monaincha Health and Spa, Roscrea sponsoring the Ladies Day. An ideal opportunity to invite your playing friends from neighbouring clubs to play in the Glenns and the chance of winning a pampering session in Monaincha!

The Australian Spoons. Congratulations to Elizabeth Pardy and Carina Gleeson who came first in the Australian Spoons with 40 points. Elizabeth Mulcair and Therese Feeley also had 40 points in this competition. This proved a very popular competition this year and lovely to see some of our new ladies taking part – well done to all!
The Countess of Granard. The Countess of Granard Trophy continues for the month of May – see locker room for details.
A.A. Team News. As promised we hope to keep you up to date on upcoming fixtures in the A.A. Club Matches.
Junior Foursomes recorded a great victory over Highfield on last Saturday in Tullamore. The next round against Moate takes place in Portarlington before 25th May. Well done to Evelyn Lynch/ Kathleen Doorley, Mary Sulivan/Mary Grennan and Ann McIntyre/Annette Kenny and to Team Captain Mary Ryan.
Senior Foursomes were also in action last weekend playing Rathdowney in Roscrea. The Birr team of Ann Kenny/Susan Reidy, Lady President Gemma Buter/Martina O’Brien and Mairead McIntyre/Vera Smyth here clocked up an impressive win and head to Rathdowney to play Roscrea in the next round. We extend good wishes to Team Captain Yvonne Boland and wish her a speedy recovery following her recent surgery.
The Minor Cup team played Edenderry in Tullamore on Saturday, 7th May – Team Captain Colette O’Brien. Unfortunately luck ran out for the Minor Cup team who suffered the narrowest of defeats – thanks to all the girls involved.
The Challenge Cup team play Athy in Roscrea on Monday, 9th May – Team Captain Liz Pardy – results next week
The Irish Mixed Foursomes play Rathdowney on Sunday 15th May – 3 pairs at home and two away 3.30 p.m.
The Boyne Team are also in action on Thursday, 19th May against Rathdowney with Tory Baker Team Captain fielding a very fancied Birr side.
