Beastly Weather

The Eastern Beast and his or her son or daughter played havoc with our competitions over the weekend. Still a few hardy souls  braved the elements and took to the fairways. No doubt the Grand Slam from Twickenham and the incredible golf from Rory in Florida helped to offer some consolation. We are delighted to welcome our new greenkeeper, Eoghan  Buckley to the Glenns and wish him every success. At the moment our pathways are being resurfaced with material sponsored by Loughnane Concrete. Many thanks to the Loughnane family who have contributed so much to our course over several decades.

LMC fixtures

The Leinster,Munster  and Connaught Golf Society  (LMC)  one of the more successful Golf Societies in the country has published its fixture list for the 2018 season.  In all there are 13 fixtures which  start in Portumna on 5 April and finish in Templemore on 22 September. Birr host the outing on 16 April when GUI President John Moloughney will attend.  John, who has contributed so much to the organisation of golf in this area will indeed be very welcome to our Club.

Team Managers

The team managers for the Men’s  Inter Club Competitions have been announced. It may come as a surprise to many that the Club participates in over 13 different competitions. The managerial list will be published next week.

Augusta Masters

With the Masters just around the corner, all you with bulging wallets after Cheltenham, get your bets on immediately with Francie. There are still a few slots available for all intrepid punters. Should be a fantastic Major with Rory  back in top form.

Bridge results

Our Winter League  final sponsored by  SuperValu had to be postponed until next Sunday 25 March after the snow returned.  Teams in the final are: Caroline McCarthy’s, Eileen Delaney’s and Sue Reidy’s.  There will be a 9-hole competition for ladies not featuring in the final.

The members offer deepest sympathy to Michael McGrath and his family on the death of his  brother John in Birr recently.
