GUI Senior Cup Leinster qualifying round
The Glenns were a proverbial hive of activity last weekend with a qualifying round of the Irish Senior Cup taking place. The competing teams were: Birr, Tullamore, Mullingar, Esker Hills, Castle Barna,, Edenderry, Mount Temple, Moate, Cill Dara, Newbridge, Moyvalley and Trim (Co.Meath.)
The Birr playing panel which won through on Sunday afternoon was: Billy Donlon, Billy McGarry, Michael Horan, Padraig Moylan, John Dwyer and Declan Gath.
Birr started with a bang on Saturday morning when they easily accounted for a powerful Mullingar team by 3.5 to 1.5. In the afternoon Edenderry were dealt with by a Birr team on fire. The Sunday morning semi-finals saw Tullamore and Birr facing each other. Once again Birr were victorious by 3/2. The final on Sunday afternoon brought Trim (Co.Meath) and Birr on to the fairways. Our team won their matches on the 14th, 15th and 17th which means that we have now qualified to play Dun Laoghaire in Malahide on 26 August.
Heartiest congratulations to our team and managers Seamas Breen and Declan Gath. They certainly have done us proud.
