AGM

The AGM of Birr Golf Club was held on Sunday 23 Nov. at 5 pm. A very large attendance heard a comprehensive report on the activIies of the club over the  past year. Outgoing Chairman Brendan O'Carroll thanked all for attending and was glad to note that our members always have the progress of the club at heart. During the year we faced many challenges but fortunately we were able to add several improvements to the course. Tees were upgraded, trees removed, new machinery acquired and signage installed. He thanked all the course and house staff and was especially grateful to all the voluntary workers who contributed so much. He thanked Hon Sec. Bernadette McTague and Hon.Treas. Joe Slevin for all their hard work over the years. He said that both were retiring this year and he wished them well for the future.

In her Hon. Sec.'s report Bernadette gave a rundown on the activities of the club and noted that we took part in all the inter club competitions, winning the Offaly Championship and the Joe Monaghan trophy in Esker Hills. The Monday Evening Scramble  was still very successful and Tuesday morning Bridge has become very popular.

She was glad to see that a development  committee has been active and no doubt we will see progress in the year ahead.

She thanked all who helped her over her term as Hon.Sec. and wished the incoming Management Committee every success.

Hon. Treas. Joe Slevin  gave his usual detailed report on the accounts of the club. He stated that we had a successful year despite many challenges.  We had a number of long term subs and a very productive club classic. Some new machinery was bought but other pieces will have to be replaced at substantial cost. In general the attendance was happy with the accounts and thanked Joe for his presentation.

There were three motions on the agenda. The first dealt with honorary membership and was passed.

The second dealt with changes and improvements to the course and was also passed.
