Club AGM
The Annual General meeting of the club will take place on Sunday 27th November at 5.00pm
Traditionally a large number of members attend to reports from the various executive members. As there are several motions on the agenda no doubt debates should be lively and interesting.
So please come along and take part.
Men’s AGM
The men’s AGM took place on Thursday 17th when a large attendance of members were given reports of the progress of the men’s section for 2016.
The Chairman Brendan O’Carroll thanked all for making his year so pleasant and enjoyable. He was especially grateful to the ladies who have the ethos of the club very much to heart. He noted that the course and house staff work tirelessly to make the club a welcoming place for members and visitors alike.
He welcomed incoming captain Tony McCormack, Vice Captain Paschal Troy and President Tom Rigney and wished them every success. He stated that Michael Ashe who served the club so well for many years was retiring from a number of committees. He then presented Michael with memento in recognition of his many decades working for the club. All present were happy to note that someone who contributed so much has been recognised.
Hon Secretary Aiden Farrelly gave a detailed account of the year’s happenings. He numbered the improvements on the course. These included the removal of poplars, work on the tees and new signage He congratulated Christy McGarry on winning the Captain’s prize and Pat Madden on capturing the President’s prize. He noted that Birr won the Inter County trophy and the Monaghan trophy in Esker Hills.
He felt that our club competitions should be run off much faster and that playing finals at this time of year was not on.
It was decided that to be eligible to win the Captain’s or President’s prizes members must play in at least three club singles during the year.
Other matters decided were: No member will be selected to play in inter club competitions unless he has paid his membership. This year Golfer of the Year will consist of ten competitions.
Aiden thanked the outgoing committee, especially Brendan, Tony and John for all their dedication and hard work.
Hon. Treasurer Liam Delaney reported on the income and expenditure account.

The meeting concluded with encouraging words from our incoming officers Tony,Paschal and Tom.

Ladies golf
Ladies AGM
A large attendance was recorded at the Ladies' Club AGM on Sunday November 13th last. Secretary Mary Mc Gee gave a detailed summary of the golfing affairs of the Ladies Club in 2016 and this was followed by comprehensive reports on the Club’s Finances, Junior Golf, Competitions and Handicaps .
The committee for 2017 was elected and Lady Captain Margaret handed over her mantle to incoming Lady Captain Theresa Fealy. Outgoing Lady Captain Margaret thanked all who helped and supported her throughout the year and all who work to maintain our club’s high standards. Lady President Agnes Doolan also expressed her gratitude to all and welcomed new Lady President Aileen Watkins. Lady Captain Theresa and Lady President Aileen were both wished the best in their respective roles in 2017.
Gemma Butler was congratulated on her success as Captain of the Irish Girls Team who made history by winning The Home Internationals in August this year. She was also wished well in her new role as Director of Junior Golf on the Board of the ILGU.
Several presentations were made on the night. This year’s Golfer of the Year was Sheila Brennan and she was also the recipient of the Silver Medal and the Silver Spoon.
The Bronze Medal was presented to Jo Conniffe.
Vera Smyth was the winner of the Birdie Competition.
The Ring Competition winners were Gemma Butler (category 0-18) and Mary Sullivan( category 19-28).
